Have you ever been in a rut? Ya know, just in a funk where you seem to mess up everything? Maybe you feel like Austin Powers where someone stole your mojo and you just can’t quite adult right? So you just turn on a sad song that resonates with your emotions. Or maybe you turn to Pinterest for some grim quotes for a good cry.
Yeah, stop doing that.
Because, before you know it, your sad moment has turned into a sad day. And that day into a week. And that week into a month. And that month into a year. And then that year into the rest of your life and you wake up sad and miserable at 43 years old wondering why the fudge your cat insists on grooming itself on your pillow. That’s slightly hyperbolic, but you get the idea.
And honestly, I’m speaking to myself as much as I am you, because this is a really terrible habit I have. Pity parties are kinda my thing.
Okay, so, what the heck is soul inspiration?
The best way I can describe it is material that vibrates your soul. Have you ever read something or listened to a song or watched a video that gave you that little jolt? You know what I’m talking about? That little, barely noticeable zing that makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
It’s material that inspires your soul. It’s truth that penetrates and divides all the lies about yourself that society has you believing. It speaks to your inner power, even if it’s buried deep, and is encouraging and uplifting.
When you focus on material that inspires your soul, you can almost feel yourself swelling beyond your comfort zone. You’re expanding in the best way possible when you consume soul inspiration.
Okay, so, how the heck does soul inspiration work?
Soul inspiration can be thought of like food for your soul. I’m gonna bet that your body doesn’t feel great when you eat heavily processed, refined foods. You probably feel tired, sluggish, moody, and like you can’t think clearly, not to mention the constant dips in energy. But how do you feel when you nourish your body with foods that help it perform well? You feel proud and healthy and even tend to continue to make healthier eating choices.
Soul inspiration is that for your soul. If you’re constantly consuming materials that are dark and defeating, that’s going to be reflected in your mood and outlook on life.
Have you ever heard of a self-fulfilling prophecy? Literarydevices.net defines it as “any expectation, positive or negative, about a situation or event that affects an individual behavior in such a manner that it causes that expectation to be fulfilled”.
So basically, as good, ol’ Henry Ford said: “whether you think you can or you think you can’t – you’re right”. Soul inspiration is meant to help you realize you can and to help you snap out of it when you think you can’t.
Okay, so, where the heck can I find soul inspiration?
Soul inspiration is all around you and it’ll be different for everyone. You can find it in songs, poems, lyrics, quotes, videos, movies, books, seminars, etc.
The great thing about social media now is that it uses your cookies and special algorithms to show you more content that you’ve been looking at. So if you search for a self-help book on Amazon, you’ll be exposed to a lot more suggestions and you may even notice advertisements for them on your Facebook and Instagram. It’s like your friendly neighborhood Interwebz is trying to help you out 🙂
One of my favorite places to find soul inspiration is Pinterest. I have an entire board dedicated to it and I refer to it often. I have pins about self-love and God, pins with affirmations, pins about self-assurance, pins about emotional management, etc. My board is filled with truths and I look at it when I feel the lies of the world creeping in.
Here’s just a few examples of the pins I have saved. I recommend following my board if this concept interests you. I post there often and it would be a great way to expose yourself to some positive thinking.
Another great source for soul inspiration is podcasts. Podcasts are great because you can listen to them as you drive, do dishes, bathe, do laundry, etc. There’s lots of them out there on basically any topic you can imagine. One of my goals is to listen to more podcasts this year.
Books are another amazing source of soul inspiration, and I like to get actual copies so that I can highlight in them and write notes as I go. I just recently finished You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero and absolutely loved it!
A vision or focus board is another great way to feed your soul daily. It’s basically one big craft where you compile pictures of how you want to design your life. You can include pictures of your dream house, where you want to travel, etc.
Creating a soul inspiration playlist on Spotify is on my to-do list as well. Music is so powerful and a great way to block out the literal noise of the world. This playlist could either be calming spa music to help you ease your mind or actual lyrical songs that speak truth to you.
If you feel like you’re always stuck in that rut, I highly recommend compiling several forms of soul inspiration for you to consume daily. Make it a part of your daily routines and you will notice a shift in your mindset. Replace the junk that life throws at you with your carefully curated soul inspiration and watch the magic happen.
